TITLE: Content Producer REPORTS TO: News Director and supervised by Assignment Editor (Content Editor) DEPARTMENT: News GENERAL PURPOSE: General duties include determining platform content based on content generated from a continuous news cycle. ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES: • Excel at writing for on air and the real-time web, while meeting show deadlines. • Able to post text and video on the web and mobile platforms. • Able to multi-task in “unfinished” mode for multiple platforms during the day, and in a finished mode for the broadcast. Reversing the traditional thinking of the “news now” content for web and mobile all day, only to gleen the most current and important for the next newscast. • Understands station goals and target audience, and works to deliver compelling content on subjects mattering to the target audience. • Clear communicator with director, anchors and multi-media journalists in the field during newscasts, and makes sure shows are timed correctly. • Assist the director in every way possible to ensure broadcasts are journalistically and technically flawless. OTHER DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES: • Contribute to story idea pool, keep website updated all day, produce newscasts and specials. • Creatively use graphics, in keeping with station guidelines, to enhance the story-telling. • Edit video when required. SUPERVISORY DUTIES: • Serves as show supervisor for the gathering and on-air presentation of the news product. JOB QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILL & ABILITY: • Understanding of newsroom operations, ENG equipment, DTV systems, Web and Mobile media brand and content extension. • Excellent News judgment and able to effectively communicate with the public and staff. • Knowledge of journalism ethics, slander and libel laws. • Ability to type fast and accurately. EDUCATION OR FORMAL TRAINING: A college degree in journalism or communications. May substitute equivalent job experience. EXPERIENCE: Minimum 2 years in journalism field preferred. MATERIAL & EQUIPMENT DIRECTLY USED: ENG and computer systems. Online production technology. WORKING ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES: SALARY: Commensurate with experience and job duties.
