JOB DESCRIPTION TITLE: News Anchor (Chief Multi-Media Journalist) REPORTS TO: News Director DEPARTMENT: News GENERAL PURPOSE General duties explained as anchoring assigned newscasts, representing station in the community, and assisting in the production of multi-media content and delivery. ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES As a Lead Journalist with excellent news judgement, the anchors and stations goals are identical. Embraces technology, writing and posting across multiple platforms daily, including blogging and updating the web site and mobile products. Regular reporting on important issues with branded delivery and clear viewer benefit. Market expert, trained to read well, and who writes and edits daily for the finished and unfinished products. Anchors newscasts and specials as assigned by News Director. Reviewing and correcting scripts written by others. Writing and producing news promotional material with clear viewer benefit. Appearing at community functions as assigned by the News Director or as needed to extend the positive impressions of KOLO in the community. OTHER DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES Trainer for younger journalists. Ability to operate a news camera, if needed. Be available for varying work schedule due to temporary or permanent schedule changes, or breaking news coverage. (Including weekends, overnights and out-of-town assisgnments.) SUPERVISORY DUTIES Supervisor for news interns. JOB QUALIFICATIONS KNOWLEDGE, SKILL & ABILITY: Understanding of newsroom operations, ENG equipment, DTV systems, Web and Mobile media brand and content extension. Ability to effectively communicate, motivate and manage people in a positive atmosphere. Able to communicate with proper English and proofreading skills for online product. Knowledge of journalism ethics, slander and libel laws. Excellent skills in dealing with the public and co-workers. EDUCATION OR FORMAL TRAINING: A college degree in journalism, related field or equivalent job experience in journalism. EXPERIENCE: Minimum 5 years in the field as a reporter. Previous anchoring experience preferred. MATERIAL & EQUIPMENT DIRECTLY USED: ENG and computer systems. Online production technology.
